Maria Menounos reveals terrifying new health scare: ‘Almost died in my sleep’

Television personality Maria Menounos has left fans shaken after sharing a harrowing account of a recent health crisis involving her battle with Type 1 diabetes. Taking to Instagram to provide a glimpse into the taxing reality of living with the chronic condition, the 46 year old revealed that she nearly lost her life during a recent episode while sleeping. The admission came alongside photos showing her struggling with technical malfunctions regarding her continuous glucose monitor, highlighting how quickly a mechanical failure can turn into a life threatening emergency.

For Menounos, this latest scare is part of a relentless decade defined by significant medical hurdles. Before managing her diabetes, she faced two separate brain and organ surgeries including the removal of a golf ball sized benign brain tumor and a subsequent operation for a rare pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. That second procedure was particularly grueling, requiring surgeons to remove part of her pancreas, her spleen, and seventeen lymph nodes just months before she welcomed her daughter via surrogate in 2023.

Despite these repeated traumas, Menounos remains dedicated to using her public platform to encourage others to prioritize their well-being. Through her podcast Heal Squad, she discusses the importance of early detection and self advocacy, turning her own brushes with death into educational tools for her followers. While admitting that the stress of managing her health can feel overwhelming, she maintains a deep sense of gratitude for surviving each trial so she can be present for her husband and young daughter.
